Well the Riders do it again and cover(win su) and head to the Western Final in BC. They deserve it as they have played terrific ball down the stretch and if it weren't for them losing by 2 last week on the last play of the game Sask (+1) they would have covered the last 7 in a row. Of course they will be the underdog heading into the game next week. Good defense by CFL standards a very good balanced attack, Sask is the play again next week fellas, we'll see if there are any key injuries from this week's game but hopefully we'll get something like 4.5

Go to the well one more time before the big Grey Cup game. SASK +7.5(bought 1pt) Riders are going for 7 covers in 8 opportunities. Their bend but don't break D helps get the cover here. GL GANG On a 10* scale I would rate it an 8*. It's been a great year capping the CFL and this rider streak has been great, I figured the line would be around 3-3.5. I've always thought even in a very offensive league like the CFL, Def. still beats a better offense. Should be a good one, in BC's last 7 games 5 were decided by 3 pts or less and 6 of 7 were 6pts or less. The only way this game gets out of hand in BC's favor is multiple turnovers by SASK or stud-WR(Dominguez) getting hurt. It's no coincidence the riders have turned it around since he was released by the JETS, he makes their offense much better with his big play capabilities and is a big dominant target. It's give a great mix with Kenton Keith at running back. The more balanced team and better overall defense gets it done.

Congrats to anyone who jumped on, the Riders had a tremendous run down the stretch and covered once again losing in overtime by 2. It's been a great run in Canadian FOootball this year and hopefully I can give everyone a quality Grey Cup pick...really down the Riders did not make it because they really deserved it. Peace for now!!

Sharky, rode the Riders as well - a 17 yarder in OT - cannot believe he missed that! Also had the Argos in the upset over the Als. My early lean is take whatever points we can get with the Argos. Your thoughts...Seems like the CFL is much more predictable than the NFL these days.

Goodwork getting on both dogs, people should make an effort capping lesser bet sports like the cfl, arena...etc... great spots at times. Agree with you, early lean towards Toronto. Guess we'll see what the line is but tough to go against, Damon Allen, John Avery and a quality Defense

Broke down this game early and jumped on Tor +4.5 at OLY, BC brings the best passing attack into the game and this game should be interesting as it will be a battle of the veteran quarterbacks Damon Allen vs Dave Dickenson(Printers left last week's game). Personally I don't think the BC Qb's matter as I strongly believe Toronto will be able to stay within the number and possibly win the game outright. In my mind Toronto has the better Defense, better special teams, better running attack with John Avery (vs Antonio Warren) and an edge in the kicking department with a very good Noel Prefontaine. Toronto's stats in my mind especially offensively this year were down and did not reflect how they could have performed. Damon Allen was out for many games this year as Michael Bishop struggled in many instances. A Bonus may be that the weather in the Great White North may be bad and hopefully it is as it would be an additional Toronto advantage.
Looking at this game I would take the pts again and again so hopefully we take one more CFL play home to finish a profitable and exciting cfl year GL

***********************Toronto +4.5************************

Here's a little tidbit out of Saskatchewan after their kicker missed some huge FG's, always what have you done for me lately, I know it goes with the territory, very unlikely they would have made it this far without him, quality kicker who's missed FG's has turned the very classy fans into wackos, here's a taste. I guess a little like Smokey Wins (Chuck Luck) who's struggling this year and granted he is but seems I remember nights last year when he was on some great runs and people were giving him **** because he would not come and post a play on a certain night. Goes right along with a great deal of the people in society that wish bad upon people and find a sense of happiness in people's despair or when they are down. In my mind some of you should be ashamed of yourself attacking him or anyone else personally for instance for his physical appearance or anything else. If you don't know the risk of this then get out now!!! Peace
REGINA (CP) - Add Saskatchewan's Paul McCallum to the list of Scott Norwood, Bill Buckner and others who have paid a nasty price for a costly mistake on the playing field.

McCallum missed two field goals, including the potential winner in overtime, in a 27-25 loss to the B.C. Lions in the CFL West final Sunday in Vancouver. Within hours, eggs had been thrown at his home, manure dumped on his lawn and he had been the target of threats.

"We're taking it very seriously," said Regina police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich. "I think everyone is really dismayed by this sort of event."

Popowich said the first call reporting that the kicker's house had been pelted with eggs came in about an hour after the game was over. While McCallum's wife was out cleaning up the mess, a second vehicle used a neighbour's driveway to pull up and dumped the manure.

Shortly after that, another vehicle passed by and the people inside allegedly uttered "threats against the property of the home owner," Popowich said.

She would not elaborate on the threats.

Regina police subsequently charged Mark Conrad Lehmond, 31, with uttering threats. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 15. The investigation continues.

"This is a very sad day for the Rider nation," Roughriders chairman Garry Huntington said in a release. "We have earned an enviable reputation right across Canada as having the classiest and most passionate fans.

"To have this reputation shattered by an act of wanton vandalism has resulted in an outpouring of outrage from hundreds of (fans) who have condemned this act as an isolated incident carried out by thugs who are not Rider fans."

Saskatchewan's politicians even weighed in on the issues, with MLA Glenn Hagel rising in the house to offer McCallum support.

"I would ask all members to join with me in condemning the actions of a few and in offering our support to Paul McCallum and his family," Hagel said.

B.C. kicker Duncan O'Mahony said Monday he'd been trying to get hold of McCallum to offer his support but hadn't been able to reach him.

"That's a classless act and it's really unfortunate," said O'Mahony as B.C. prepared to leave for the Grey Cup in Ottawa. "Paul is a great guy. I hope those people, they get them."

McCallum is the latest in a line of athletes to pay the price for a costly error.

Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal with second remaining that would have given the Buffalo Bills the win over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV in 1991. The ball went wide right and Norwood, despite a fine record with the Bills, became a championship goat.

McCallum's overtime miss was from just 18 yards out, compounding the disappointment.

"I didn't do my job," said McCallum, who crumpled to the turf and lay flat on his back holding his helmet with his hands after missing the kick.

"I pulled it. I was trying to hit it straight. I mis-hit it. I let a lot of people down, especially the guys in this locker-room."

Following the miss, B.C. kicker Duncan O'Mahony booted a 40-yard field goal for the win and a ticket to the Grey Cup.

As in Buffalo, fans in Saskatchewan were starved for football success. The Riders had won six of their last seven and had a good shot at heading to the Grey Cup for the first time since 1997 - and for only the ninth time since 1950.

After the game, Saskatchewan general manager Roy Shivers came down hard on McCallum.

"It's fair to blame (McCallum)," Shivers was quoted in the Regina Leader-Post. "It's a team game, you're supposed to do your job. All I ask is for everybody to do their job. He didn't do his job today."

"There was nothing wrong with the snap, nothing wrong with the hold, I don't want to hear that," Shivers continued. "We had 39 other guys busting their ass off and we get let down."

But head coach Danny Barrett offered support.

"Let's make this perfectly clear: it didn't come down to (McCallum)," Barrett said. "We had more than one opportunity."

The actions of the angry few were strongly rebuked by the Leader-Post.

Columnist Rob Vanstone pointed out that it was a last-second field goal by McCallum against Hamilton in September that kept the then 4-8 Roughriders in the playoff hunt.

"If the Riders had not won in Hamilton, they might have kept spinning out of playoff contention," Vanstone wrote. "And now he is Saskatchewan's version of Bill Buckner - or so his detractors would have you believe."

Buckner was the Boston first basemen who, in 1986, let a ground ball roll between his legs at the worst possible time. The Red Sox went on to lose the championship to the New York Mets in seven games.

McCallum was born in Vancouver, but now makes his home in Regina. He has been a mainstay on the Roughriders roster since 1997.

"Paul and his family have been an important part of this community for over seven years," said Huntington. "They live here, work here, raise their family here and are making contributions every day to our city. ...

"This is not who we are. We win together. We lose together and we cannot express strongly enough how sorry we are over this incident."

The best I see now for the Argos is +3, but I'll take it. As for the weather, the Cup is in Ottawa. You never know about rain/snow but with that stadium WIND will definitely be a factor. That plays into Toronto's hands with BC passing philosophy. Let's hope the CFL Playoff DOGs continue their run!

I'd buy the the hook if you can, BC has a great passing game which worries me and it's not quite like the strong plays I've had lately but in my mind I'm not sure how you can lay the pts in this one. On a scale of 1-10 it would be a 7. Gl bud hopefully be cashing this one Sunday!!

I actually found a 4 at Carib - took it! I have totals of 50 and 49.5. I'd like to jump on the under but I'd like to see a more precise weather forecast before I pull the trigger. Lately the Cups have tended to fall around that number. So far only one playoff game has gone over 50 and that was the OT game in BC in perfect conditions. Gotta lean toward the under. Any thoughts?

Good you found a +4 but for the total I would stay away, should be 2 quality quarterbacks playing possibly in bad weather, too tough to call for now, I would just stay with the spread.

Printers will be available for BC as well. I saw TO +4.5 today, but I'm on the other side. BC should take the game. Look at those ballcatchers!!

GL to you, well looks like the weather will cooperate sunday so that's better for BC, but I would rather have the better defense, kicker and special teams in this one. Even if BC starts scoring with relative ease I'm not so sure Toronto won't be able to keep up, give me the pts with a determined Damon Allen who was snubbed by coach Wally Buono and the team when he arrived a couple of years ago as coach. They treated him like absolute **** after he led them to a Grey Cup a couple of years before and was their heart and soul for many years. I remember well when everyone was talking how classless they were benching him and eventually realeased him. I know business is business but it was done very poorly. Your don't need added motivation to play in a game like this but for me it's the cherry on top for taking the pts and the Argos.

The trouble with Damon Allen is that he's going to get hit. Toronto's O-Line won't be able to keep BC away from him for long, and at his age, a good hit might take him out. What then? Who's behind him?

He's a great pivot, no question, however BC treated him on the way out. I'm hoping the line will drop back to one FG.... I can see this game being won on one of the final series.

A little bit of rain won't stop Printers and Simon- they'll get their points in. If they can keep Toronto's punt and kick returners from scoring, they should be OK>

Hope many were able to jump on, I really wanted to finish a great CFL year and run down the stretch with a quality Grey Cup pick , Toronto +4.5 gets the job done with a 27-19 win with Damon Allen the MVP of the contest. BC kept it quiet who was going to start at Quarterback, they'll take some heat because when was the last time a league MVP did not see the field during the championship game, amazing but true, no health issues but Dickensen is a quality QB but was injured most of the year and that's why Printers got his chance to play and win the MVP. Damon Allen is 4-0 when starting a Grey CUP. And for him it's a double bonus as he comes back to haunt the team and coach that treated him poorly when they let him go a couple of years ago. Toronto's improved offense with Damon Allen at QB, better kicking game and a better defense that frustrated the league's best passing offense were key.

11/21/2004

OTTAWA (CP) - Twenty-year veteran Damon Allen ran in two touchdowns and passed for another as the Toronto Argonauts defeated the B.C. Lions 27-19 in the Grey Cup game on Sunday night.

Allen, a 41-year-old grandfather who is the CFL's all-time passing leader, scored on a pair of one-yard plunges to lead the Argonauts to their first CFL championship since they won consecutive Grey Cups in 1996 and 1997.

He was named the game's outstanding player.

B.C.'s Jason Clermont was named the outstanding Canadian in the game.

``I'm quite thankful to be able to play this long and with a great group of guys,'' Allen said after the game. ``A team that truly believed we could win the whole thing.

``We're a family. We came to play today.''

The capacity crowd of 51,242 at Frank Clair Stadium saw Robert Baker make a touchdown catch and Noel Prefontaine boot two field goals for Toronto, whose much-maligned attack moved the ball with authority against the favoured Lions.

Dave Dickenson, the surprise starter over CFL Outstanding Player Casey Printers for B.C., scored a touchdown and connected on another with Jason Clermont, the league's and the game's Outstanding Canadian.

Printers didn't even step on the field.

Duncan O'Mahony added a pair of field goals for the Lions, but missed a 22-yard convert attempt after B.C. was twice called for procedure while trying for two points with the score at 24-19 in the fourth quarter.

``We didn't give up any deep balls,'' Argos linebacker Mike O'Shea told CBC. ``We kept their passes short. We kept them off the scoreboard, and that's what counts.''

Michael (Pinball) Clemons, who won three Grey Cups as a player for Toronto, picked up his first as a head coach and also became the first black head coach to win the championship.

Allen won his fourth career Cup, including two with Edmonton and another with B.C. in 2000.

The San Diego native, who missed much of the regular season with a broken left leg, left the game at 9:45 of a third quarter with a cramp in is left leg after sliding with the ball.

But he returned six minutes into the fourth and was able to finish.

He helped the Argos win by avoiding turnovers and finding openings in the medium range of the pass defence, consistently hitting receivers Baker, Arland Bruce and Tony Miles.

Toronto marched downfield and scored on an Allen plunge on the first possession of the second half for a 24-10 lead, but the Lions weren't dead.

Handing off time after time to Antonio Warren, they took the ball to the Toronto seven and Dickenson ran it in up the middle to close the gap to five points. Warren rushed for more than 150 yards in the game.

But Prefontaine added a late field goal.

Toronto led 17-10 when The Tragically Hip took over the field for a rocking halftime show after a masterful performance by Allen.

The decision to start Dickenson looked like genius as the veteran led B.C. to a touchdown on the first possession of a game, a seven-yard drive capped by a 12-yard toss to a wide open Clermont at 4:01.

But the Toronto defence rallied, aided by some miserable punting by O'Mahony, who shanked three consecutive attempts to angle punts out of bounds and failing to trap Toronto deep in its zone.

After a nine-yard punt, Allen led a drive the ended with a 27-yard Prefontaine field goal.

On the Argos' next possession, Allen hit Robert Baker for two long passes and caught a break on a pass interference penalty against Da'Shann Austin to put the ball on the one. Allen took it in himself for a 10-7 lead at 12:22 of the second quarter.

The Lions tied it on a 42-yard O'Mahony field goal at 13:13, but Allen led another drive capped by a 23-yard TD toss to Baker. On the preceding play, Baker had been knocked down in the end zone by Carl Kidd, but no flag was thrown.

Notes - B.C. made two late line-up changes, inserting linebacker Jujuan Armour and defensive lineman Natauyn McKay-Loescher in place of Chris Hoople and Anthony Walker. ... Allen's brother, former NFL star Marcus Allen, was in town for the game.

Goodwork ASU, nice to see you hit both sides, amazing run to finish the season, also had a 4 team parlay with Toronto as the last game, should have hedge, would have been smart but really was confident in this Toronto play.

Got a 50- for the total - sweated that one out. Thought that would be easy since it was just 7-0 midway thru the 2nd quarter. I saw a 4.5 early today but the line dropped to 3.5 and I even saw a +3 (-115) at Bowmans. A lot of late, "smart" money on Toronto! Like I said, hate to see it end...
